Course
Description
The course focuses on imparting skills related to planning and implementing
community-based behaviour change programmes for HIV/AIDS. It aims
to familarise participants with the basic principles of BCC (behaviour
change communication) and to orient participants on the role of
community participation, social and cultural systems, gender and
environmental factors in the context of implementing behaviour change
programmes. This training also provides planning tools which can
be applied to any behaviour change programme. The course integrates
approaches for BCC and stigma reduction. Participants prepare an
action plan for behaviour change programmes using the LFA (logical
framework analysis) format. The course demonstrates the development
of effective audio-visual aids. Participants learn skills of pretesting
audio-visual materials and adapting them for local use. The course
includes strategies on how to provide need based BCC to PLWHAs and
their families.The course also focuses on how to involve PLWHA (People
living with HIV/AIDS) in all aspects of programme design and implementation.
Course objectives
At the end of the
course participants will be able to:
Define
BCC in terms of behaviour change, health service utilisation
and demand generation for basic services and needs.
Plan an
BCC programme to change defined behaviours, increase service
utilisation and demand basic minimum needs.
Develop
community resources (women, children, youth, etc.) as key BCC
change agents.
Conduct
need and situation specific BCC sessions (home visits and group
meetings)
Plan and
implement an BCC campaign.
Establish
and sustain community groups.
Balance
community and programme needs.

Field
Visits
The participants will have 3 field visits during the 10-day course.
This will provide the participants an opportunity to apply what
they have learnt to actual field situations. They will also learn
different people centered BCC approaches.

Dates
The course will be run between 11 to 21 September 2006.
Venue
The course will be held at IHMP's training institute in Pachod.
IHMP has a well-equipped training center along with a library and
photocopying facilities. Pachod is located 55 kms from Aurangabad
in Maharashtra. A note attached here with on how to reach Pachod

Boarding
and Lodging
Boarding and lodging will be provided in Pachod.
Course
Eligibility & Fees
The course will be conducted in English. Any graduate having knowledge
of English, with 2-3 years of experience in the health education
/ BCC field is eligible for this course. The course is open for
anyone working in a supervisory or managerial capacity. The course
fees are Rs. 2,500/- and are inclusive of boarding, lodging and
course material.
