Course Dates
The course is a 4-week
residential training programme for health supervisor/multipurpose workers who are working
in the field of primary health care. The course is designed with the intention of
reinforcing basic training and providing skills for planning, effective supervision and
evaluation. The course is conducted either in Hindi or Marathi.
Course Objectives
1.
To provide a reinforcement of basic
knowledge in primary care (PHC) with an emphasis on the most recent developments in all
the components of PHC.
2.
To develop health supervisors/MPWs as
trainers with an emphasis on field training of grassroots level workers.
3.
To provide techniques of supervision and
support to grassroots level workers.
4.
To develop skills in creating demand for
existing services.
5.
To introduce the technique of community
needs assessment through community involvement.
6.
To introduce monitoring and
participatory evaluation as a routine activity.
Introduction to concept of PHC and its
components, Government health systems, CHG scheme, human body and functions of various
systems, biological social basis of illness.
Maternal and child health care,
immunization, growth monitoring, nutrition and family welfare.
Communicable diseases, environmental
sanitation, first aid, minor ailments treatment.

Practicum:
A major feature of the course is
practical training because of the field laboratory provided by the field programmes of
IHMP. Every week field work is organised to provide an opportunity to apply what they have
leant to actual field situations.
Faculty:
Experienced residential faculty and
the field staff of IHMP will serve as faculty for the course. The field staff will be
available for practical and training.
Trainees:
Criteria for selection are:
~ Minimum education qualification- 10th Std. Pass.
~ Minimum one year work experience in the field of community health.
~ Trainees should be sponsored.
~ Knowledge of Hindi or Marathi is essential.
