IHMP
Publications
IHMP
produces training, audiovisual materials and monitoring tools in
the areas of health, nutrition, water, sanitation, HIV/AIDS, Life
Skills etc. IHMP’s materials are developed at the grassroots
level with substantial inputs from the audience for whom they are
intended. IHMP has always focused on participatory methodologies
and interactive ways of learning. This is reflected in all its materials.
Some of the materials are used by a community level worker during
home visits, others are used during group sessions. All these materials
can also be used by peer educators, women’s groups and adolescent
girls groups. IHMP has developed innovative ways of participatory
learning – these include a role play on infant nutrition –
“The Nutritious Ruppee”, a cookbook on anemia prevention
“Prevent Anemia Now”, a calendar on “Male Involvement”
etc.which also serves the purpose of a self monitoring tool etc.
All the materials are pretested at IHMP’s rural and urban
sites.

Prevention of Anemia in Adolescent Girls:
“Meera” Flashcards (Marathi- 14 cards): Rs. 175
70-80% of girls and women in India suffer from nutritional anemia.
Mira flash cards tell that women have double burden of work i.e.
at house and at work place, but they have to eat the rest over food
which is not enough for them as they have to go through so many
physical exertions. These flash cards give information on how to
prepare iron rich recipes and use of it in daily diet, to prevent
anemia.
Our Health and Kitchen Gardens (Marathi):
Rs. 250
The
level of under nutrition and anemia in children 6-14 yrs is very
high. One of the major reasons for this undernutrition is lack of
a balanced diet, specifically the low consumption of green leafy
vegetables. The flashcards have been prepared with active participation
of rural children and IHMP’s Bal Vikas programme team.
This
flashcard set is intended to promote the following behaviours:
1. The establishment of kitchen gardens
2. Children should eat at least four times a day
3. Children should eat a balanced diet as outlined
in the cards
4. Children should consume one “vati”
(serving) of green leafy vegetables every day
5. Children must eat atleast one iron rich and
Vitamin food every day
Prevent
Anemia Now! (A Cook Book in English and Marathi): Rs. 40 & 20
respectively
This cookbook was planned as part of an adolescent nutrition project
undertaken by the Institute of Health Management, Pachod (IHMP).
However as work on the cookbook progressed, its scope also grew.
We realised that the cookbook was not for only adolescent girls
but the entire family! Its audience could include women and children,
two groups which are very vulnerable to anemia.
The
recipes have been compiled with the aim of helping families achieve
the goal of daily consumption of iron rich and Vitamin C rich foods.
The cookbook also hopes to provide a new perspective on dealing
with the problem of iron deficiency anemia – through a change
in the daily diet of families.
Calendar:
Male Involvement, Anemia, Focus on Married Adolescents (Marathi
– Rs 20 per calendar)
An innovative BCC tool, the calendar is designed to be on the wall
of every household for an entire year. The calendar also doubles
up as a self monitoring tool.
